Tip 1 - Choose the correct Domain name. From a SEO perspective choose a domain name that includes your most important Keywords. So if your site is about Carp Fishing. Then try and choose something like CarpFishing.com. If the domain is gone - try Carp-Fishing.com.

Tip 2 - Do not choose a Domain name with more than one hyphen. Google will think it is spammy. So Carp-Fishing.com is gone - try other TLD domains

Tip 3 - TLD (Top Level Domains): after .com try .net, .org or .info or TLD for your resident country - if in the UK - .co.uk

Tip 4 - No luck with 1, 2 & 3. OK - try some adding other keyword or resort to "The", "site" - so carpfishingsite.com or thecarpfishing.com
